The Economist (the magazine edited by the guys who wrote The Right Nation) has a great story about the tensions in the conservative movement.

It mentions that the "Washington establishment" wing of the movement (aka the Republican party) is willing to expand spending and dole out pork, while the "insurgent conservatives" in the south and west (aka the actual grassroots conservative movement) is angry about this. This sure seems to back up my argument that the conservatives' biggest mistake ever was putting all their eggs in the Republican basket.

However, when the article states that the conservative movement "dominat[es]...the intellectual agenda," it demonstrates why conservatives' big mistakes won't cost them unless liberals come up with new ideas. Which is my other big point about American politics.

My new dream is to be a writer for The Economist.
