Weekend Reading Guide:

1. Pioneering stem cell research Woo Suk Hwang (giggle) did a lot more than gather egg cells from his employeed...he actually faked some of his most important results. Oops. I've often praised Korea for this line of research, but now I guess I'll eat my crow with kim chi...

2. Iran's president Ahmadinejad is getting positively apocalyptic with his pronouncements about Jews, Israel, and the West, but fortunately the "international community" (read: Europe, Russia, and on a good day the U.S.) is looking a little less tolerant of this kind of shenanigan than in the past. Even Saudi Arabia is getting tough...now just say it in Arabic, Saudis...

3. A victory for the anti-torture forces (aka the good guys). Of course, the CIA will still disobey the new regulations, and we'll never catch them doing it, but at least now we can show the world that we believe in the right principles.

4. Turkey is behaving like a bunch of...um...silly geese, with a show trial of a novelist who "insulted Turkey." I don't really have too much to say about this, except: Please don't let Turkey into the EU if they keep doing crap like this. And recognize the Armenian genocide!!

And finally...

5. E.J. Dionne says that Republican ideas are worn out. Supply-side economic policies have been proven wrong time and time again. But he doesn't take this as an indicator of Democratic success by default - he instead hopes "that today's graying of conservatism will invite liberals to a new era of innovation". I couldn't agree with him more.
