Um...told you so.

As I've noted before, the conservative movement put all its eggs in one basket when it decided to back only the Republican party forever and ever. So far, we've seen rampant spending by the Bush administration and the current Congress, pretty much a boot in the teeth for economic conservatives. Now Jonathan Chait at The New Republic gives us the details (along with some harsh words) of how the current Republican leadership has basically duped the social conservatives into working for a party that makes a lot of noise but doesn't really enact social conservatives' agenda.

It's tempting to say "neener neener, told you so," but the problem is serious. Although I'm a liberal myself, I recognize that America needs a conservative movement around to balance things out. If the conservative movement keeps sacrificing itself to feed the Republican Party, that balance will be lacking.

If you put all your eggs in one basket, the chickens will come home to roost...or something like that.
